Aduriz shines in Vallecas

Excellent start for Athletic

The game couldn’t have started better for the away team, who surprised Rayo Vallecano before the end of the first minute. In a perfect counter attack play, the ball landed at Aritz Aduriz’s boots for him to run past the Rayo defenders and score the 0-1 beating Juan Carlos.

Penalty

Raul Baena knocked Raul Garcia over inside the box and Athletic had the chance to extend their lead from the penalty spot. Aduriz took responsibility and, with a chipped shot, he beat the home goalkeeper again in the 24th minute.

Three times Aduriz

The Basque side was clearly in control of the game up to the break and kept on going in the second half. Raul Garcia hit the post, but the man in charge of scoring the third goal for Athletic would be Aduriz once again.

His third goal came in the 60th minute. In a play where Laporte headed the ball on and the Basque number 20 appeared in the box to head into goal.

Laporte sent off

Shortly after scoring the 0-3, Athletic had to face an important mishap. In the 64th minute, Aymeric Laporte was sent off after fouling Manucho just outside the box and Valverde’s men had to give a step back to stop Rayo’s reaction.

Final push by Rayo

With more men on the pitch, Paco Jemez’s men fought until the last minute to change the situation. Manucho and Javi Guerra had many chances to change the final score, but their bad aim and Gorka Iraizoz kept the final result on 0-3.
