Iago Aspas' technique
Neither side managed to dominate the game or carve out any clear goalscoring chances. That is until the 28th minute when Iago Aspas put his impressive technique to good use to give RC Celta the lead. Fabian Orellana crossed from the wing and Aspas broke the deadlock with an acrobatic finish.
Marco Asensio's thunderbolt
RCD Espanyol reacted well following Celta's opener. Firstly, Hernan Perez, in a one on one with Sergio Alvarez, sent the ball over the crossbar. The home side levelled the game in the 39th minute courtesy of Marco Asensio's powerful shot from outside the area. It was Espanyol's 200th goal at the RCDE Stadium.
End to end action in the second half
The early stages of the second half were nothing like the start of the first 45 minutes. The game opened up and both teams had chances to break the deadlock in the first minutes of the second half. Gerard Moreno came closest before Oscar Duarte crossed to the far post and Hernan Perez failed to put the ball away from close range.
A valuable point for each team
Despite failing to get the win, both teams came away with a valuable point. The draw saw Espanyol take a step closer to safety. Galca's team now sit eight points clear of the relegation zone with four games to play. Meanwhile, it took Celta a step closer to their dream of European football.
