The 2014/15 regular season drew to a close with a number of historical milestones achieved. Of special significance was the influx of supporters to football grounds. A grand total of 13,546,935 spectators filled the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante stadiums this year, making this season LaLiga’s best ever in terms of stadium attendance. This current figure overshadows that of the 13,537,717 fans who packed the stands during the 2009/10 season. All this before the promotion playoffs have been played.

Over the last few seasons, attendance in the Liga BBVA has hovered around the 10 million mark, with 9,779,032 fans coming to cheer on their teams in 2014/15, while the Liga Adelante has also experienced a steady growth in numbers over the last few years, with the figure currently standing at 3,767,903 spectators. The joint figure of both competitions has also grown at a constant rate over the last three years, with an increased figure of almost one million people through the turnstiles.

The 2014/15 season was also a milestone for Spanish stadiums in terms of the rate of maximum capacity reached. The Liga BBVA saw an occupancy rate of 69.93%, the highest figure in the history of the division. The highest attendance this season came on matchday 32 when 305,325 supporters filled the stands. Meanwhile, the Liga Adelante achieved a record high 44.21% occupancy rate over the course of the league campaign, with matchday 40 attracting the greatest number of fans, when 124,954 made their packed the division’s grounds. Adding the two competitions together, LaLiga has reached a 60.19% occupancy rate during the regular season, thereby breaking the previously held record.

In accordance with this growth in attendance figures, there was also a notable increase in the number of tickets sold. The 2014/15 season was an historic high for the Liga BBVA, with 2,392,206 tickets sold, an increase of nearly 100,000 compared with the previous season. Adding the number of Liga Adelante tickets purchased, the joint figure of tickets sold shot up to 2,392,206, a record high in LaLiga.
