Commercial Court number 11 in Madrid has ordered the immediate end to illegal transmissions of LaLiga games viawww.rojadirecta.me allowing the precautionary measures requested by MEDIAPRO and GOL T. Should those responsible for the website not stop the transmissions in the next seven days, the judge ordered the lenders "suspend the transmission, the data banks, the access to telecommunications networks or any other equivalent service," that is to say, it orders that the operators will be impeded from emitting the said website.
The preventative measures requested by MEDIAPRO and GOL T, and accepted by the judge, form part of a judicial process undertaken against www.rojadirecta.me and its principal promoter Igor Seoane for infraction of intellectual property rights and unfair competition and in which request the definitive end to said transmissions on the website. MEDIAPRO and GOL T consider that the said webpage is not just a website that provides links, but is a promoter and in many cases the broadcaster of these retransmissions, making a profit from it. In the decree from the Commercial Court number 11 it states that the preventative measures are the "direct or indirect conduct that has the effect of ensuring under judicial protection the effectiveness of measures that the judge may take in an eventual sentence" adding that "there are signs that the activity developed by the website www.rojadirecta.me constitutes a violation of the production and audiovisual rights and recordings" and that the violation "was carried out with the conscious collaboration of the defendants."
MEDIAPRO thanks the important work done by LaLiga's judicial department and the intergrity (anti-piracy) department which has been fundamental in obtaining the preventative measures carried out today for MEDIAPRO and GOL T.
MEDIAPRO, GOL T and LaLiga view this decision very positively, given that it constitutes a precedent and a valuable first step in the fight against piracy and the illegal emission of protected content. The piracy of digital content is a serious problem. According to the observatory on piracy and the consuming of digital content, in 2014, 88% of content consumed on the internet was illegal, with loses to the sector of 1.7 billion euros. According to the observatory, the loses for the world of football are around 500 million euros annually.
