FRI 13.05.2016

The league title, fifth place and the relegation battle. All of these will be decided on the final matchday. After 37 instalments with the teams fighting for different objectives, there are still three episodes to be played out and the exhilarating battles will produce a victor in each department

The numbers 88 and 87. On the face of it, two insignificant figures. Their relevance lies in the fact that they are the number of points accrued by FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, with just a single one separating the two. Barcelona hold a one-point lead with three left to play for. Granada CF and RC Deportivo are their respective opponents. Two games will be played, but only one champion can emerge. We will find out who starting at 17:00 CET on Saturday.

At 19:30 CET on the same day, the fight for fifth place will commence. RC Celta and Athletic Club, fully immersed in this fantastic contest, will attempt to come out on top in their respective games against Atletico Madrid and UD Las Palmas. The Vigo outfit head into the final fray with a slim one-point advantage. The winner of the 'battle for Europe' will be rewarded with direct qualification to the group stage of the Europa League.

The Benito Villamarin, El Molinon and Vallecas are the grounds where the relegation battle will be waged. On Sunday at 19:30 CET, Getafe CF, R. Sporting and Rayo Vallecano will step once more unto the breach in a bid to remain in the top-flight of Spanish football next season. Victory for Getafe would leave Sporting and Rayo out of the running. However, if Los Azulones draw or lose, a victory for Sporting would see them safe. Anything but a win for both Juan Esnaider's and Abelardo's men, together with a Rayo victory, would mean that the Madrilenian side live to fight another year in the Liga BBVA.
