News

MAR 16.07.2024

This past week was a momentous one in Spanish football, as the national team lifted the Euro 2024 trophy with several LALIGA EA SPORTS stars playing key roles. Beyond that, several Spanish clubs have made important signings, the most significant of which are outlined below.

Williams and Oyarzabal fire Spain to Euro 2024 glory

The Spanish national team are European champions once again, as La Roja defeated England 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday night. The victory was secured by two goals from LALIGA EA SPORTS players, as Athletic Club’s Nico Williams opened the scoring before Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal turned in the winner in the 86th minute.

Argentina retain the Copa America

There was another international final on Sunday night, with the Copa America final taking place between Argentina and Colombia. The match went to extra time, where Lautaro Martínez scored the only goal of the game to make it a 1-0 win for La Albiceleste, whose squad contained Nahuel Molina, Rodrigo de Paul, Guido Rodríguez, Germán Pezzella and Marcos Acuña, all of whom impressed in LALIGA EA SPORTS last season.

The squads for the Olympic Games are announced

There is yet another international football tournament just around the corner, as the men’s football tournament of the Olympic Games begins on July 24th. 29 of the footballers who’ll be playing in the tournament play for a Spanish club, a figure surpassed only by the host nation France.

Girona FC win the race to sign Donny van de Beek

Girona FC continue to strengthen ahead of their first ever season in the Champions League. The Catalan club have managed to acquire Donny van de Beek, the Dutch midfielder who famously reached the semi-finals of that European competition with Ajax in 2018/19. Gabriel Misehouy, another Ajax academy graduate, also signed with Girona FC this past week.

Rafa Mir returns to Valencia CF

Striker Rafa Mir has joined Valencia CF on a season-long loan from Sevilla FC, returning to his former club. The 27-year-old came through Los Che’s academy, although he only made eight appearances for the Valencia CF first team. This season, he’ll have the chance to add to that tally.

Real Sociedad bring in left-back Sergio Gómez

Real Sociedad entered this summer aware that they needed to sign a left-back, given the injury issues that have plagued them at that position in recent times. As such, they are delighted to have signed Sergio Gómez, who has spent the past two seasons with Manchester City. Still only 23, he has a bright future but already has a lot of experience.

Diego Llorente is back in LALIGA EA SPORTS

Former Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad centre-back Diego Llorente is back in LALIGA EA SPORTS, having signed with Real Betis. The Spanish club managed to agree a deal with Leeds United for the defender, which is welcome news given the injury issues they suffered in central defence last campaign.

Just one month remains until the start of the 2024/25 season

The new LALIGA EA SPORTS season is getting closer. The first games of the new campaign – Athletic Club vs Getafe CF and Real Betis vs Girona FC – will take place on August 15th, which is now just one month away.

The kick-off times of the first four matchdays are confirmed

It’s not just the first matchday of the new season that has the kick-off times confirmed. LALIGA has already announced the exact dates and kick-off times of the first four rounds of the new campaign, so the excitement is well and truly building.
