Lionel Messi's record-breaking antics as a FC Barcelona player show no signs of stopping. Against Valencia CF, the Argentine scored his 400th competitive goal for los azulgrana, a milestone he had been inching nearer towards over the last few matchdays.
The Liga BBVA is the South American's favourite competition, a division in which he has found the back of the net 278 times, a figure that includes his goal against Valencia. The Barcelona Number 10 averages 0.90 goals per game in the Spanish topflight, making him the Catalan club's most prolific front man. Ten years since getting his first competitive goal for Barcelona, and with a long career still ahead of him, Messi continues adding to his overall tally as well as his legacy as a world-class player.
The UEFA Champions League is also a happy hunting ground for the Argentine striker. The Rosario native has notched up 75 goals in Europe's elite football competition, a tally that makes him the tournament's all-time top scorer, a title he is in an on-going battle with Cristiano Ronaldo to hold onto. Trailing behind him are legendary names like Raúl González Blanco and Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
His remaining goals have come in the other club competitions: He has scored on 32 occasions in the Copa del Rey, on ten in the Spanish Super Cup, once in the European Super Cup and four times in the FIFA Club World Cup.
