A new edition brought new dreams of glory among the kids on display, who served up copious highlights. We aren't just referring to the incredible saves pulled off by Jose Antonio or the wonder strikes by Paco Tekaling, who netted two beauties in the final, in which he was his side's hero. The most important part of this latest instalment of LaLiga Promises in Villarreal was the chance to once more enjoy all the values that football has to offer, including respect between teammates and opponents, sportsmanship, and fair play both on and off the pitch.
The top 20 Under-12 teams enjoyed themselves and made their mark over the course of the three-day competition at the Pamesa Ceramica Training Ground. Hundreds of fans packed out the venue where they, along with the players, enjoyed an exceptional end to the week. More than 50 matches filled the pitches with football and the stands with colour, whilst thrilling a group of young footballers who are the future stars of their clubs.
There was no lack of talent or surprises. There were visits on the opening day from the likes of Raul Gonzalez, Fernando Morientes, Marcos Senna and Carles Puyol. Their presence in the All-Star game added to the kids' excitement as they eagerly looked forward to taking part in the tournament. Meanwhile, a freestyle performance served up by Juanan during the final delighted everyone in the stands. After the final, the tournament drew to a close with an emotional awards ceremony where trophies were handed out to the champions, runners-up and Player of the Tournament.
