LUN 01.07.2024

It may be the off-season, but there were still several important pieces of LALIGA EA SPORTS news this past week, including a coaching hire at UD Las Palmas. That and the other main headlines from the world of Spanish football are outlined below.

Luis Carrión is the new coach of UD Las Palmas

UD Las Palmas have hired their new coach, ahead of the 2024/25 LALIGA EA SPORTS campaign. Following the departure of García Pimienta, the Canary Islanders have hired Luis Carrión, who spent last season at Real Oviedo and who almost secured promotion for the Asturian side. Now, at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, he’ll aim to take UD Las Palmas to the next level.

Nacho bids farewell to Real Madrid

After spending his entire career until now at Real Madrid, Nacho has decided that this summer is the right time to depart the Bernabéu, having just won his sixth Champions League title. The 34-year-old centre-back is moving to Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia and bid an emotional farewell to Real Madrid this past week.

Abel Ruiz strengthens Girona FC’s attack

Girona FC have added another goalscorer to their attack, having brought in Abel Ruiz from SC Braga. The Spanish striker, who emerged from FC Barcelona’s academy, has returned to Spain after a successful stint in Portugal, where he won the Taça de Portugal and the Taça da Liga.

Jaime Mata switches to UD Las Palmas

Jaime Mata is staying in LALIGA EA SPORTS but he’ll be wearing yellow next season. The Getafe CF legend has left the Coliseum to join UD Las Palmas, becoming their latest signing in what has already been a busy summer of transfer activity for the Canary Islands side.

Marc Roca is staying at Real Betis

Following Marc Roca’s impressive 2023/24 campaign, when he played at Real Betis on loan from Leeds United, Los Verdiblancos have managed to sign the midfielder on a permanent transfer. Keeping Roca was one of the priorities for Manuel Pellegrini and the Spaniard has signed a new deal at the club, until 2029.

Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams shine for Spain

Euro 2024 is continuing in Germany and Spain have reached the quarter-finals, where they’ll face the host nation. La Roja have been playing some great football, with wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams both impressing. The FC Barcelona and Athletic Club players have formed a dynamic duo in Spain’s attack.

Bellingham saves the day for England

Another LALIGA EA SPORTS player who has grabbed the headlines during the tournament is Jude Bellingham, who produced an incredible overhead kick to equalise for England in the 96th minute of their Last 16 duel with Slovakia. That made it 1-1 at full-time, before England went on to win 2-1 in extra time and keep their hopes of winning the trophy alive.

LALIGA stars progress to the Copa America knockouts

Several LALIGA EA SPORTS stars have also been participating in the Copa America, where 10 of the 16 teams have at least one LALIGA player in their squads. Two of the four groups have already concluded, with world champions Argentina topping Group A thanks to solid performances from various Spain-based players, while Brazil are set to qualify for the knockouts too after Vinícius and Sávio led them to a 4-1 win over Paraguay.

Athletic Club vs Getafe CF will kick off the 2024/25 LALIGA EA SPORTS season

The exact dates and kick-off times for the first matchday of the new LALIGA EA SPORTS season have been announced, with the very first match being Athletic Club vs Getafe CF at 19:00 CEST on Thursday August 15th. Valencia CF vs FC Barcelona will be held on Saturday August 17th at 21:30 CEST, before champions Real Madrid begin their title defence at the same time on Sunday August 18th at RCD Mallorca.

LALIGA HYPERMOTION also begins on August 15th

The Matchday 1 kick-off times for the 2024/25 LALIGA HYPERMOTION season have also been announced, and it’ll also get underway on August 15th, when Granada CF and Albacete Balompié meet at 20:30 CEST.
