Previously… Carlos Alberto Valderrama was a Colombian midfielder who played for Real Valladolid CF in the 1991/92 season, playing 17 games and scoring one goal.
His achievements… Although Valderrama’s spell in the Liga BBVA was brief, the midfielder from Santa Marta will always be remembered for his quality and vision. El Pibe, as he was popularly known in South American football, is remembered world over as one of the standard bearers of Colombian football.
After hanging up his boots… The sporting world enjoyed the Valderrama’s football until 2004, when Colombia’s number 10 hung up his boots. After retiring, he spent time in the dugout of Junior de Barranquilla and Colombia’s indigenous team, where he joined forces with Faustino Asprilla at the helm of the side in the first American Indigenous Football Cup.
