Sevilla FC continue to steamroller through Liga BBVA. The Andalusians beat Real Sociedad de Fútbol 1-0 on matchday five of the championship to keep up their unbeaten record, with four wins and one draw. Gerard Deulofeu, one of Unai Emery’s biggest signings this year, scored the winner.
The match got off to a thrilling start with both sides enjoying great chances to open the scoring. The side from Seville fired the first warning shot with a free-kick from Nico Pareja, but Eñaut Zubikarai prevented the goal at full stretch. Immediately following the move, it was Gonzalo Castro who could have put the visitors ahead, but his shot crashed into the crossbar. After the exchange of fire, Gerard Deulofeu finally made it 1-0 by finishing a cross from Benoît Trémoulinas on the left wing.
After the break, Sevilla came very close to extending their lead with a header from Stéphane M'Bia that also hit the woodwork. For the visitors, Jagoba Arrasate brought on Carlos Vela and Alfred Finnbogason in the hope of finding an equaliser, but the side from Donostia were unable to get through the Andalusian defence and the three points stayed in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium.
