The teams at the bottom of the table played the lead roles on the Saturday in the Liga BBVA: Real Betis Balompié, Real Valladolid CF and Granada CF. The three teams were strong at their home grounds and claimed three points to help them stay in the top flight.
The big upset was at the José Zorilla Stadium where manager Juan Ignacio Martínez’s Valladolid defeated Barcelona 1-0 with a solitary goal from Fausto Rossi in the first half. With this result the pucelanos momentarily climb out of the relegation zone, while the azulgranas lose their second place in the table following Atlético’s victory against Celta de Vigo (0-2), thanks to a stellar performance from David Villa.
In another match, Betis came up for air with a 2-0 victory over Getafe CF, with goals from Léo Baptistão and Rubén Castro, who now has seven scores in the competition for a side that finds a glimmer of hope with this victory. In the final match of the Saturday, another of the Andalusian teams in the division, Granada, defeated Villarreal CF 2-0 with a solid performance in the first half that keeps the side out of the relegation zone.
