UD Almeria secure promotion to LaLiga Santander

The 2014/15 season was the last campaign in which UD Almeria graced the highest level of Spanish football, but now they’re back in the big time. Their 2-2 draw with CD Leganes combined with Eibar’s last-minute defeat away at Alcorcon meant that Rubi’s side can proudly say that they’ll be appearing in LaLiga Santander 2022/23, just rewards for an excellent season.

The Andalusians have been near the top of the division for most of the campaign, proof of how consistent they are which was ultimately one of the main reasons they secured promotion.

We’d have to go back seven years to the last time Almeria appeared in the Spanish top flight, but now they’ll be competing with the best in the land once again. Throughout the 2021/22 campaign they showed resolve, hard work, and talent, all of which contributed to their successful season.

One of the main reasons behind their promotion triumph was forward Umar Sadiq, who was among LaLiga 2’s leading marksmen as well as being his club’s top scorer. UD Almeria’s fans have had their dreams come true – they’re now part of Spanish football’s elite.
