The Liga BBVA is the setting for numerous battles in search of different objectives for clubs. However, there are also individual battles for certain prizes, and the leading scorer prize is the most sought after of these awards.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi lead the pack by a large margin. The Real Madrid and FC Barcelona players will be competing for the award over the last two games, and the Portuguese player has a two goal lead over the Argentinian.

Despite it all, neither Ronaldo nor Messi managed to get a goal this week. The Portuguese player had the best chance, but he missed the penalty that would have given him a three goal advantage over Leo Messi, and remains on 42 goals. The Argentinian did not manage to score either and stays on his previous week tally of 40 goals.

Of the top five goal scorers, only one of them was on the scoreboard. Neymar opened the way to victory for Barcelona against Real Sociedad and is now on 22 goals in the Liga BBVA this season. The Brazilian headed in a Leo Messi cross at the back post to make it 1-0 against the ‘txuri-urdin’ side at the Camp Nou.

Antoine Griezmann watched Neymar draw level with him in the Liga BBVA top goal scorer list on 22 goals, as the French man could not find the net against Levante UD. The fifth highest goal scorer in the competition is Carlos Bacca, of Sevilla FC, who is on 20 goals.
