FC Barcelona have crowned themselves champions of LaLiga Santander 2018/19 – the 26th league title in their history. They have managed to defend the title to make it eight out of the last 11 and they have done so with some superlative statistics.
The 83 points they boast in the league standings have put them streets ahead of the rest, 9 points clear of Atletico Madrid. The champions have been consistent all through the season, with 25 wins, eight draws and just two defeats in the 35 games played so far. There has been little difference between their performances in home and away matches, with just three additional wins on their own turf than on the road.
Undoubtedly, one of Barça's strongest facets this campaign has been their play from set pieces. They are the team which has best utilised them this season with 22 goals from dead-ball situations. A significant boost in this department comes from Leo Messi having netted six times from free kicks, his most prolific season in this regard together with the previous one (2017/18).
The Argentine also stands out from the crowd because this is not just another league title for him. He is now the FC Barcelona player to have lifted the league trophy on the most occasions (10) in the club's history, outdoing other legends such as Andres Iniesta (9), Xavi, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique (all with eight).
