The president of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, Javier Tebas, and the Sports Secretary of State, Miguel Cardenal, spoke to the press following the Executive Committee of the Sports Higher Council (CSD) to announce the unanimous approval of reforms to the statute and the RFEF’s Disciplinary Code in order to fight against violence in football. These measures will come into effect on Tuesday.

Miguel Cardenal explained the wide range of sanctions that were unanimously agreed upon by the Executive Committee. "The partial and total closure of stadiums, points deductions, relegation, banning directors as well as the effective implementation of personnel who will be in attendance at games to ensure that all those involved with the sporting event abide by the rules and furthermore, that this check, with the adopted measures, could then be used as legal evidence", explained the president of the CSD. Cardenal also pointed out that "the effectiveness of these components being put in place by the LFP, who are making a big effort to bring in more personnel, will ensure that these measures are correctly implemented".

The Sports Secretary of State expressed his "satisfaction with the approved measures" and stated, "they will be sufficient to tackle the problem of stadium violence". Cardenal showed his "satisfaction with the attitude of the teams in terms of breaking any ties they may have with these ultra groups".

Meanwhile, Javier Tebas confirmed that Alfredo Lorenzo will be the Liga de Fútbol Profesional's new Director of Security. "He has the perfect profile for what we were looking for", he said after explaining that the role will be to coordinate and give precise instructions to all the clubs' security directors, as well as work alongside the National Sports Bureau in order to organise tasks during sporting events along with the National Polices' security coordinators". To conclude, Tebas explained that he will prepare a strategic plan to eradicate groups of ultras from football.

With regards to the figure of a match director, the LFP president pointed out that, "we in La Liga are going to insist on what was agreed upon in the meetings following the death of the support with the representatives of the RFEF who attended. While it is not a federally recognised position, it is recognised by La Liga".

Tebas explained that with the partial closure of stands, "we are looking to close those sections of stadiums where intolerable chants are repeatedly heard and where violence is initiated. We know which sections we are talking about and there has been a noticeable drop off in abusive and xenophobic chants over the last two months". The president concluded by saying "this situation has to be maintained and in order to do that we have created the aforementioned bodies: the La Liga Security Director, the informants and the match directors. And we will carry on with them".
