The best action from February has come from teams such as Valencia CF and RC Celta, therefore several of their players are included in the starting XI chosen by the editors of LFP.es. The players selected for this side have had a decisive role to play over the last four matchdays in February.
Goalkeeper
Sergio Álvarez is in goal. This month, the RC Celta goalkeeper has reflected his side’s recovery. The former reserve player also managed to keep a clean sheet in two of the Vigo side’s most important games: the Galician derby at the Riazor stadium and the clash against the current Liga BBVA champions, Atlético Madrid.
Defence
In defence, there is also a player trained by Eduardo Berizzo, Gustavo Cabral. The Argentinian defender is also partly responsible for the fact that his side only conceded two goals in February. Along with him on the right-hand side of defence is Roberto Rosales. Málaga CF’s right-footed fullback has adapted quickly to the Liga BBVA and has shown his best form on the big stages such as the Camp Nou, where his side won 0-1.
Defence is completed with two Valencia CF players, Shkodran Mustafi and José Luis Gayà. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side won all of their games in February and that has allowed them to widen the gap between them and Sevilla and move closer to third placed Atlético de Madrid. Mustafi’s order and the freshness of Gayà have been key elements of Valencia’s season.
Midfield
Creation and imagination are the main characteristics that define the three La Liga BBVA midfielders chosen from February. Valencia’s success is led by Dani Parejo, who is the side’s leading scorer (7) and passer, and is back in the starting XI of the LFP.es for the second consecutive month.
Since December, Isco Alarcón has been a regular fixture among the best players in the Liga BBVA. Wherever he goes, the player from Malaga shows his class and care with the ball, capturing the hearts of football fans along the way. This elegance is also shown by Michael Krohn-Dehli. The Danish player is enjoying his best season yet since arriving at Celta in 2012 and he also deserves a lot of the praise for Galician side’s good month.
Forwards
Among the attackers, we have a one of the starting XI’s usual suspects: Lionel Messi. The Argentinian forward scored six goals in February and now has a total of 27 in the league. Alongside him in attack is the Rayo Vallecano forward Alberto Bueno, who scored five goals in February, including an historic showing against Levante UD, scoring 4 goals in 15 minutes. The February starting XI is completed with the man who was selected as February’s best player: Antoine Griezmann. The French player continues his run of form and he has performed well this months, also adding three goals along the way.
