As is the case every season, LaLiga has put together a practical guide setting out the values and responsibilities required of the players who compete in LaLiga Santander, LaLiga 1|2|3 and the Iberdrola Women's First Division. The main addition to the Welcome Manual this season is the inclusion of the obligations which these three leagues' clubs and public limited sports companies (SADs) are responsible for their players and coaches fulfilling with respect to the recently introduced Regulations on Television Broadcasts.
The guide, which has been distributed to top-flight dressing rooms up and down Spain, opens with a message from LaLiga president Javier Tebas, addressed to the players. "Here at LaLiga we are constantly striving to ensure that our clubs and public limited sports companies (SADs) have the best possible resources so that you can play the game in all its glory and continue to delight fans all over the world," Tebas writes, before going on to urge every player, male and female, to enjoy their profession "with responsibility and integrity" and to respect fair play on and off the pitch.
The aforementioned regulations and the manual itself signal LaLiga's continued efforts on two fronts: externally, with regard to the internationalisation and expansion of its brand, and internally in terms of boosting the value of its clubs' and SADs' broadcasting rights, and protecting the integrity of Spanish football. On this note, the manual reiterates that there is no place for racism, xenophobia, match-fixing or any form of unsporting behaviour in LaLiga, and that as role models for millions of people, players who ply their trade in Spain must set an example not only domestically, but for the entire world.
