The scramble for sixth place came to a head in a clash between SD Ponferradina and R. Zaragoza on Liga Adelante matchday 36. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and both clubs now have 53 points, but the side from Aragon occupy sixth position as they won 4-1 when the two met earlier in the season.
The first half threw up few chances although it was an intense start. After 24 minutes, Pedro Sánchez tested the home keeper, the young Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was up to the task in what proved to be the most dangerous attack of the first 45 minutes.
After the break the intensity continued while both sides created more chances.
Ponferradina's came through Pablo Infante on the wing and from dead-ball situations. When the clock read 51, Kepa made an outstanding save from a Basha shot to keep out the first goal. Just one minute later Borja Bastón found the net for the visitors after latching onto a loose ball in the area. Conceding did nothing to slow the Blanquiazules and they found an equaliser just seven minutes later; it came after a Pablo Infante corner that was finished off by Andy Rodríguez to make it 1-1. Ponferradina could have sealed all three points in added time, but Andy's header was stopped by Yassine Bounou.
