Sevilla FC showed that they are right in the fight for a European place after defeating CA Osasuna 1-2 thanks to goals from Jairo Samperio and Carlos Bacca, the latter from the penalty spot. Carlos Javier Acuña pulled a consolation goal back for the home side in injury time.
Two sides with different objectives stepped onto the pitch as they looked to impose their style of play. The home side came close through Oriol Riera, however the number 19’s shot missed the target. Osasuna were looking at their best just as the visitors scored their first goal. Jairo took advantage of a counter attack to put them ahead, whilst Bacca doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time.
This second goal flattened the Navarran side’s spirits, and they didn’t find any response until too late, when Acuña made it 1-2 on the stroke of full time. This result means that the Andalusian outfit occupy fifth place, awaiting the results of Real Sociedad de Fútbol and Villarreal CF, whilst the Basque side remain in the relegation scrap.
