SD Eibar are coming into the final sprint of their #LaLigaWorld tour of the United States. Jose Luis Mendilibar's troops were put through their paces for the final time at the Sam Boyd Stadium, which will play host to the club's game against North American Soccer League side the New York Cosmos. The Basque outfit will look to round off an excellent campaign on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 local time (04:00 CET).
New York Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese made a point of praising the visitors on their outstanding season. "The Eibar story is fantastic, it's one of the best in Europe," stated the Venezuelan. His opposite number Jose Luis Mendilibar also sang the praises of his team's opponents: "We're facing the club that has arguably done the most for soccer in the United States."
"From a young age, I remember always hearing about the legendary players that had spells at this club. There must be something special about it for people to be so fond of it," added Eibar's Jota Peleteiro. Former At. Osasuna and Real Betis man Roversio Rodrigues, who now plies his trade with the New York Cosmos, was also keen to express his excitement: "I'm really looking forward to it. It means a lot to our squad to play against such opposition."
In keeping with the custom, the Eibar players trained with the backing of their onlooking United States-based fans, who were mostly members of the Las Vegas Eusko Etxea (Basque Club). It was an unforgettable display of support for a team that are about to round off their #LaLigaWorld tour and a season that will live long in the memory.
