Girona FC and R. Zaragoza resume their playoff semi-final at the Estadio de Montilivi as, with a place in the final awaiting, they decide which of the two will go on to battle it out for a spot in the Liga BBVA.
The Catalan club not only go into the second leg with home advantage, but also the significant cushion of a 0-3 lead earned in the sides’ opening encounter at La Romareda. Nevertheless, a Zaragoza outfit with little to lose will go all out to try to turn the tie around and keep their dreams of promotion alive.
Team news
Los albirrojos’ only absentee for this vital match is long-term injury victim Jonas Ramalho. Meanwhile, Zaragoza will be without Borja Bastón, who is undoubtedly a significant loss for Ranko Popović. The good news for los maños is the return to the squad of Jaime Romero, who missed out on last Thursday’s first leg.
Views from the dugout
Pablo Machín, coach of Girona FC, doesn’t want his side’s advantage in the tie to see them lose focus. "We have to be competitive and approach the game as if it were 0-0. If we still have the same lead, we’ll have the final minutes to play it safe", he said.
Popović promised that both he and his players will "honour" the mantra that "Zaragoza never give up". "If we come into the match with spirit and the right mindset, everything could be different from what happened to us in the first leg", he declared.
