Real Sociedad stop Valencia

Real Sociedad de Fútbol and Valencia CF drew 1-1 on matchday 6 of the Liga BBVA. The point puts Nuno’s team in second place behind FC Barcelona.

The San Sebastián side did more to deserve a lead in the first half, but the visitors capitalised on their chances and silenced the crowd at the Anoeta in the 15th minute of the game. From a ball into the box, Paco Alcácer provided the assist with his head to his team-mate Carles Gil, who beat the goalkeeper Eñaut Zubikarai to make it 0-1.

Far from crumbling, Real Sociedad continued with the same intensity, looking for the equaliser. First Imanol Agirretxe, and then Iñigo Martínez, who forced defender José Luis Gayá to clear the ball from under the posts, threatened the Valencia goal. Finally Real’s persistence paid off, and Sergio Canales made it 1-1 after the break.

In the second half, the Txuri-Urdines went on the charge again, pressing the opposition who were unable to keep possession of the ball. However, Valencia almost surprised the Basque side with a great left-footed strike from Filipe Augusto that came off Iñigo and narrowly missed Zubikarai’s goal. In the end, the huge effort from Real Socieded went unrewarded in the result and they remain without a win since matchday 2 of the championship.
