A fearless Sporting
The "Asturianos" started the match with energy and intensity, putting their opponent in serious strain on several occasions. Alen Halilović and Jony, twice, were responsible for threating the goal defended by Toño. Later, Abelardo Fernández´s men would end up regretting missed opportunities.
Paco Jemez´s setback
Rayo Vallecano´s coach had to change his plans sooner than desired. Pablo Hernandez felt a prick at the back of the thigh and had to leave the pitch in the 27th minute and was replaced by Adrian Embarba.
Outnumbered
Sporting also had to cope with a huge setback in the first half of the match. Bernardo saw his second yellow card in a penalty awarded in favor of the "Vallecanos", and Roberto Trashorras made no mistake from the spot. Thus, the “Asturianos” had to face the second half with ten men and with an adverse outcome.
Javi Guerra
The striker from Malaga was again central to Rayo. If last weekend scored the winning goal against UD Las Palmas, this time scored another goal that turned to worth three golden points. It was in the 48th minute after taking advantage of a rejection of goalkeeper Alberto Garcia.
Final resistance
Jony could reduce the gap for Sporting just a minute later, at 49'. The goal by the "Rojiblanco" homegrown served to re-add excitement to the game and to give strength to the "Asturianos", although Paco Jemez´s team managed successfully to defend its lead to finish adding three new points.
