Granada took an early lead
There were 11 minutes on the clock when Youssef El Arabi, who has 10 goals to his name this season, gave Granada CF the lead at Los Carmenes. The Andalusian side caught the Rayo Vallecano defence high up the pitch and Isaac Cuenca broke away quickly, outrunning Marin Ruz Quini and laying the ball off to El Arabi, who slotted it past the Rayo keeper. Things had started well for Granada: 1:0.
Chances for both sides
There were chances for both teams to score following the home side's opener. Once again, Ruben Rochina was a key player for Granada and he had the clearest chance of the first half. He fired in a dangerous free-kick only to see it go wide. Meanwhile, Rayo came close to an equaliser when Piti's shot brought a good save from Jesus Fernandez.
Rayo's reaction
Pablo Hernandez equalised on the stroke of half-time. In time added on, the Rayo striker levelled the scores at 1-1. Adri Embarba's 47th-minute cross from the right found Pablo, who headed the ball goalwards, only for it to hit a Granada defender. The rebound fell kindly at his feet and Pablo Hernandez did not miss a second time.
Penalty
Granada again took the lead through El Arabi, this time from the penalty spot. Juan Carlos brought Isaac Success down inside the area and the referee booked the keeper and pointed to the spot. The centre-forward sent the keeper the wrong way for his, and Granada's, second goal of the game.
A breathtaking final few minutes
There were only three minutes left on the clock when Rayo pulled the game back to 2-2. Manucho picked up the ball inside the area and set up Ze Castro who fired it into the back of the net to seal a point for Rayo.
