Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Club will square off on Wednesday at 20:00 on matchday five of the Liga BBVA. Paco Jémez’s men will be keen to get their first victory of the season against a Rojiblancos side who have been inconsistent so far, and whose biggest win came against Levante UD, 3-0, on matchday two.
Team news
Ernesto Valverde is taking all his available men to Vallecas, with the exception of Ibai Gómez and Ager Aketxe, who withdrew injured from the UEFA Champions League game. The home manager will have to make do without Antonio Amaya, who will be out until mid-October.
Views from the dugout
Paco Jémez, the home coach, is wary of the quality of his opponents: "Athletic Club are one of the best teams in Spain, they are a Champions League team. They have shown what they are capable of". He also indicated that he would mix things up for the match. "I have to keep looking for the most consistent side. There will be changes". For his part, the Rojiblancos’ manager is also aware of the difficulty of the match. "The way Rayo play is attractive, and when they play well, they achieve their goals, it is all or nothing", stated Valverde.
