Real Zaragoza and UD Las Palmas will meet for the 61st time when they face one another in the first leg of the playoff final for promotion to the Liga BBVA. The Aragonese side will be aiming to reverse their last results against the Canary Island side (three defeats in their last three games) with the hope of getting an advantage ahead of the Sunday game in Gran Canaria.
Team News
The big news in the side coached by Ranko Popović is the inclusion of Borja Bastón in the list of 20 players called up by the Serbian manager. The forward from Madrid who scored 23 goals during the regular season, is hoping to make his comeback after missing the first knock-out round against Girona FC due to a muscle problem. Meanwhile, the Canary Island team’s midfielder, Vicente Gómez, said goodbye to the rest of the season after it was confirmed that he suffered a break during the last of Las Palmas’ games against R. Valladolid CF.
Thoughts from the dugout
Popović gave a press conference ahead of his side hosting the 'pio-pio' side and offered a positive assessment of his team’s attitude after they made a comeback against Girona. "We have to give everything we can for this, the players must offer everything they have on the pitch" stated the Serbian, who also said he said would need a "good game" in order to win.
Meanwhile, Paco Herrera, compared Zaragoza with Córdoba CF last season (the team that beat Las Palmas in the final) and said: "When they are in their top form, Zaragoza are a side you have to be aware us. We cannot afford to be over confident in the slightest".
