Osasuna end their bad run

A goal from Oriol Riera was enough to see off Málaga, giving the side from Navarra their first win away from home.

CA Osasuna took the three points on their visit to Málaga CF thanks to a first half goal from Oriol Riera.

Both sides met at La Rosaleda with the formbooks looking very different. Málaga, after losing their first two, have found themselves undefeated in their last five. Osasuna, on the other hand, had only won once, losing six of their seven fixtures this season. This disparity didn’t exist on the field tonight, as the team from Navarra took all three points thanks to Oriol Riera.

Both sides exchanged efforts in the opening stages, and it was Pedro Morales who had the first genuine sight of goal for the home side. During this carousel of opportunities, Lolo grazed the post with a long ranger, and as the minutes passed, Javi Gracia’s side carried on testing Willy Caballero, who had a splendid first half in the Málaga goal. Indeed, if it wasn’t for the Argentinean goalkeeper, the Navarran side would have lead by more than just Riera’s 23rd minute goal at half time.

Málaga took the initiative in the second half, dominating possession and creating all the openings against Gracia’s men, who tried to counter attack, but with little success. During the side from Andalusia’s period of dominance, Angeleri had the chance to draw the game, but he could not breach the Osasuna backline, who managed to survive with their clean sheet intact.
