At. Osasuna are all set to grace the Liga BBVA again. The side coached by Enrique Martin – and spearheaded on the pitch by players such as Roberto Torres, Mikel Merino and Nino – can taste the promised land once more, having sealed a return to the top flight after a two-year spell in the Liga Adelante.
After claiming sixth spot by the skin of their teeth in the regular season, during which they recorded 17 wins, 13 draws and 12 defeats, the Pamplona outfit got the better of Gimnastic in the playoff semi-finals, triumphing 6-3 on aggregate (they followed up a 3-1 victory at El Sadar by running out 3-2 winners at the Nou Estadi). In the grand final, meanwhile, Martin's men prevailed over Girona FC. They set themselves on their way with a 2-1 success on home turf in the first leg, before completing the job in the return with a solitary goal from Kenan Kodro at Montilivi.
Osasuna have thus become the third and last club to clinch promotion to the Liga BBVA this term, following in the footsteps of D. Alaves and CD Leganes, who were automatically promoted after finishing the campaign top of the table and second respectively.
