New coach, certain victory?

The saying “new coach certain victory", is it true or false? A total of 15 coaches have been dismissed to date between Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante. Seven of them were in First Division teams and the other eight were from the Second Division.

For Espanyol, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad the arrival of a new manager to the bench was synonymous with victory. The opposite case of Levante UD. In his first game as Granota coach, Rubi lost 3-0 to Valencia CF.

In the Liga Adelante, three coaches have passed through the RCD Mallorca and Almeria dugouts. The most curious case is of the Bermellón team. The side from the Balearics have secured four wins this season and two of them have occurred after the dismissal of their coach. A victory in the first game of Pepe Galvez and also a win in the debut of Fernando Vazquez, the current coach.

In 53% of cases the saying is fulfilled and the result was the victory. The defeats only reflect 16% of the total. Rubi, Joan Carrillo and Juan Antonio Anquela could not get the victory in their debut. Finally, in 31% of cases, the match has resulted in a draw, such as in the examples of Quique Setién, Juan Merino, Gary Neville and Lluis Carreras.
