UD Las Palmas and R. Valladolid CF drew 1-1 on matchday 35 of the Liga Adelante, Roger Martí opening the scoring for the visitors only for Sergio Araujo to level up the clash just five minutes afterwards.
The encounter got off to an even start. Both the hosts and los vallisoletanos were aware of how much was at stake, with the two sides’ respect for each other in clear evidence during the first half. The teams became embroiled in a battle for possession in midfield, which saw dominance of the game change hands and chances on goal few and far between. Alfredo Ortuño was the most dangerous figure for Las Palmas, while Hernán Pérez had Valladolid’s clearest opportunity of the opening 45 but was off target with his shot.
Valladolid sought to play with greater directness following the restart, bringing them much more presence in the match and inside their opponents’ half. Opportunities began to arrive for the team coached by Joan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi', leading Roger to put them ahead after 66’. But just five minutes later, Sergio Araujo levelled. Thereafter, the clash livened up as the hosts, spurred on by the equaliser, began to take control. However, there was to be no change to the scoreline as the teams took a point each, one that is insufficient to see either reach a much sought-after second spot.
