The visitors struggle at kick-off
Valencia CF started the game off well, but without managing to follow through on their chances. After the first ten minutes, Álvaro Negredo had an excellent opportunity to light up the scoreboard, but his shot against Germán Lux flew wide of the mark. Soon after, it was the Deportivo goalkeeper who correctly anticipated the danger from Daniel Parejo, blocking his shot on goal.
Lucas finds the net
Deportivo were unforgiving in their first clear chance on goal. After 27 minutes, Luis Alberto slipped a great pass into the path of Lucas Perez, who shrugged off the goalkeeper Mathew Ryan with a dribble to the right side and shot into the empty net. The Galician was delighted to finally be reunited with the net after four games without a goal, although he continues to improve his record this season, in which he has already found the net 13 times.
Everything up for grabs in the second half
With 1-0 on the board, anything could of happened in a second half, where Deportivo failed to increase their lead and Valencia fought strongly for the draw. Luis Alberto got the best chance to bury the home side and secure a win, but his shot was caught by an unhurried Ryan. On the Valencia side, Negredo continued to be the main danger.
Persistence pays off
Álvaro Negredo made so many attempts on goal that he finally ended up finding his mark. The Madrid striker scored at the 90 + 3rd minute, heading the ball in to secure a 1-1 final result. This was his third goal of the season and the second consecutive one after the Rayo match last weekend.
Neville made to wait
Although Gary Neville's Valencia side did not throw in the towel and managed to score a point in Riazor, the English head coach still has not tasted victory in La Liga BBVA. Since coming to the bench, Neville holds a balance of five draws and two defeats.
