"Small details decided it. It was a very evenly matched game, which is what you expect from FC Barcelona v Real Madrid." This was the verdict of Liga BBVA ambassador Gaizka Mendieta, who enjoyed #ElClasico in Miami and offered his thoughts on Real Madrid's comeback to LaLiga after the final whistle. "Real Madrid's game plan worked really well. They hardly gave Barcelona any space," Mendieta commented following what was an absorbing tactical battle between Luis Enrique and Zinedine Zidane.
It was a Clasico to remember for ex-Barça star Mendieta, who was in town in Miami as a Liga BBVA ambassador and took part in the various activities held in the American city in connection with the occasion. Afterwards he gave his take on the match: "Barcelona dictated the game and possession, but when you're not ruthless you can end up paying the price. They always believe they're going to get goals but this time it didn't work out like that," he remarked.
Last but not least, Mendieta highlighted Cristiano Ronaldo's contribution: "He's very important to Real Madrid. His performances in big matches have always been called into question and this time he came up with the goods," the Bilbao-born former midfielder said. "He always proves what a good player he is. He controlled the ball expertly and the finish was perfect," he added.
