Málaga CF secured a brave win over Real Betis (1-2) in the final game of round 31 in Liga BBVA.
In a vibrant encounter played at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, the home side came out with the intention of cutting the distance to the other sides in the relegation zone. Despite controlling the game, it was Málaga centre forward Roque Santa Cruz who tested out Antonio Adán one on one, however the home side's goalkeeper dealt well with the situation. The response from Humberto Calderón's side came with a goal. After creating numerous opportunities of little danger, midfielder Lolo Reyes fired home from the edge of the area to make it 1-0.
After the break, Betis came under the cosh from Bernd Schuster's men, who grew into the game as they looked for an equaliser. The opportunities soon followed. Wide man Jesús Gámez almost levelled things up with a right footed volley, and the goal came soon after as Betis tired. Good play by Amrabat set up Juanmi at the near post. Shortly after Sergi Darder made it 1-2 after good linkup play. In the final minutes, Rubén Castro missed a penalty for the home side. With this result Málaga move onto 35 points in 12th.
