Málaga CF and Granada CF were both in need of points before they matchday seven. The home side won their first match in the Liga BBVA and had not had a victory since; while Granada, for their part, needed three points to help them forget about the 6-0 thumping from FC Barcelona.
Granada's goal came soon after kick-off. A shot from Rubén Rochina from outside the box was cleared by Carlos Kameni and Youssef El Arabi latched onto the rebound to make it 0-1. Málaga gradually got into the tempo of the match and dominated possession, but they were unable to undo some solid defending from Joaquín Caparrós' men.
In the second half Málaga continued to search for the equaliser and their ventures into Oier Olazábal's area were becoming increasingly dangerous. Granada were also creating danger on the counter. Jhon Córdoba had a great chance after 51 minutes but his effort sailed over the bar.
Goalkeeper Roberto Fernández saved his side on several occasions, however, he failed to hold onto a ball that Roque Santa Cruz pounced on to shoot into an open goal and level the match. Javi Gracia’s side were still on the prowl and the winning goal arrived when the clock read 81, with Vitorino Antunes netting from the penalty spot.
