D. Alavés vs. Atlético de Madrid

D. Alaves were thrashed 4-1 on Friday night by a rampant Villarreal who continue to thrill LaLiga Santander as one of its most potent attacking arsenals. The result saw D. Alaves slip to 14th after three losses from their past five games with a visit from Atletico de Madrid coming at an unwelcome time. Atletico de Madrid snapped a streak of three-consecutive draws with a strong 2-0 win over Athletic Club, sending them back into the top four. Their defence remains the most resolute in Spanish football, surrendering just five goals in their 10 games so far and D. Alaves will have their work cut out for them if they’re to earn a result. D. Alaves have never beaten Atletico de Madrid and have lost four-straight meetings. They lost this fixture 4-0 last year.

FC Barcelona vs. R. Valladolid

FC Barcelona had the weekend off following the postponement of El Clasico for safety reasons, so they will be refreshed and waiting for a R. Valladolid side that are in good form and remain undefeated in their past five. They knocked off SD Eibar 2-0 at home on the weekend with Sergi Guardiola continuing to impress up front. While entering the Camp Nou is always a daunting prospect, R. Valladolid will feel they’re in a great position to potentially catch a rusty FC Barcelona. The away side has never won at the venue, and FC Barcelona won both fixtures 1-0 last season.

Real Madrid vs. CD Leganés

Like FC Barcelona, Real Madrid had the weekend free after their always eagerly anticipated El Clasico was moved to December. As such they lost their position in LaLiga Santander’s top two and find themselves sixth after Real Sociedad, Atletico de Madrid and Sevilla FC all recorded wins. The closeness of the top seven is such that Villarreal could jump from seventh to first with a win. Real Madrid kick back into action against CD Leganes who recorded their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over RCD Mallorca on the weekend. It was a hugely relieving victory for a side that were starting to really fall behind in the race for survival. They will look to use that as motivation for their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu, a venue where they won 2-1 in the Copa del Rey last season. Real Madrid have never lost to CD Leganes in LaLiga Santander, with five wins and just one draw in their six meetings.

Getafe CF vs. Granada CF

In a stunning turn of events Granada CF find themselves atop LaLiga Santander after 10 matches thanks to three wins in four games. They are playing fantastic football and have won the hearts of football fans around the world through a quarter of the season. They continue to beat the lower ranked teams and can still claim the huge scalp of FC Barcelona, but they now face a difficult stretch that includes Getafe CF away, Real Sociedad, Valencia away, Atletico de Madrid and Athletic Club away. Getafe CF failed to take advantage of a brief spell of form, losing to Sevilla FC 2-0 and falling out of the top half of LaLiga Santander. They appear to be lacking the confidence they earned through a fantastic campaign last season and will need to re-find their spark if they’re to upset the league’s top team. Granada CF have won three-consecutive meetings between these two sides, the most recent in the 2015/16 campaign. Getafe CF haven’t beaten Granada CF since 2013.
