UD Las Palmas won 2-0 against Girona FC in the game corresponding to matchday 33 of the Liga Adelante, a match between two direct rivals fighting for promotion to the Liga BBVA. The win leaves Paco Herrera’s men in second with 59 points. Meanwhile, Pablo Machín’s men drop to fourth.
The scoring was opened with the game barely underway. David Simón gave a great pass to Sergio Araujo and the Las Palmas forward took the chance with a curling shot. There were only three minutes on the clock and that goal allowed the Canary Islanders to have more space to counterattack. For Girona, Miguel Ángel Garrido Cifuentes and Felipe Sanchón were very active but it was difficult for the visitors to get clear chances.
In the second half, the even play between the two sides continued. Both sides went in search of goals, but lacked precision with the last pass. In the 68’ minute the first clear chance of the second half arrived in the form of a goal. Momo sent a dead ball into the area around the penalty spot, Alfredo Ortuño made the most of it make it 2-0 with a great volley. The goal was a blow for Machín’s men who could not change the result and now drop to fourth with the defeat.
