In a crowded event in Times Square (New York, United States), Save the Dream initiative launched a global message of hope and peace through sport. To promote the values defended in this project, Save the Dream has had the support of numerous organizations and sports personalities, including Fernando Sanz, General Manager of LaLiga´s office in MENA and first ambassador of Liga BBVA.
Along with Fernando Sanz also were present at Times Square other big names of world football as David Villa, global ambassador for LaLiga, Fernando Hierro and Alessandro Del Piero. LaLiga took part in this event along with other organizations, including several UN agencies such as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UNICEF and the UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace.
Former players participated in a group practice with children in a small football field deployed in the iconic American plaza. The message sent from this event was to let children play no matter where they are and who they are. Fernando Sanz endorsed that message in his speech. "It's a great responsibility to football. We need to support these initiatives promoting peace and hope through sport".
The event also included the participation of the Italian national team of rhythmic gymnastics, world champion and Olympic bronze in London 2012, and the African singer Youssou N'Dour, who performed the song Save the Dream, official soundtrack of this initiative.
Save the Dream is a project conceived by the International Centre for Sports Security (ICSS) and the Qatar Olympic Committee in order to promote and protect the fundamental values of sport to the world's youth. Since its birth in 2012, Save the Dream has built a great coalition of athletes, responsible for the world of sport and international organizations and civil society, among other global institutions, to support the message of it.
