"Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos are all familiar names amongst international football fans, and they are particularly popular in the small island of the Republic of Malta, where the Spanish LaLiga is followed by thousands of Maltese football fans.
"Malta only has one semi-professional football league called the BOV Premier League, with an additional three tiers of amateur leagues from the First to the Third Division. It is only natural that the Maltese football enthusiasts shift their attention to international football leagues such as the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, the Spanish LaLiga, the Bundesliga and the Eredivisie.
"Undoubtedly LaLiga is in a league of its own! The fact that the top international stars play in this league is guarantees viewers, and Malta is second to none when it comes to viewers of La Liga. Up until two years ago one of Malta's Pay TV Channels, namely Melita PLC, used to own the exclusive TV rights in Malta and used to provide a minimum of five LaLiga games each weekend under the terms of their agreement with Mediapro.
"Unfortunately official licensed TV rights for LaLiga in Malta are not available anymore because of pay TV platforms, but nonetheless the viewing figures keep on growing. With the introduction of new media platforms, the Maltese LaLiga fans have still managed to keep their regular appointments to follow Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Atletico amongst others. LaLiga is LaLiga. It is simply Super. It is simply the best show you can get, it is the best. As the Maltese say: LaLiga l-Aqwa ghall-Ispettaklu!"
