Amid accelerating globalization of sports and digitization of fan bases, the partnership will help LaLiga connect with the next generation of football fans and activate audiences both in traditional markets such as Europe and South America, as well as new regions such as China and the USA.
With some of the biggest names in football, LaLiga offers the ultimate football experience. Indeed teams are among the most successful in the global sports industry.
As global smartphone penetration continues to grow, popular social apps such as Facebook are becoming key platforms for video discovery, consumption and sharing. The use of Grabyo’s technology will allow the league and a number of its leading clubs to collaborate on the production and distribution of ‘in-the-moment’ video content, such as instant replays and behind-the-scenes footage, to hundreds of millions of football fans around the world.
"We need to keep moving forward. Whether that is away from TV or not. You now have football in your pocket." - Nacho Trujillo, LaLiga.

"This strategic deal with Grabyo will dramatically enhance the experience we offer fans on digital platforms and use the clubs and players as distribution channels,” comments Ignacio Martinez Trujillo, Managing Director, Innovation and Global Development at LaLiga. “Ninety minutes of football just isn’t enough for fans anymore. Yes they want real-time highlights but they also want interviews, special features and a whole range of footage around match day."
LaLiga will use Grabyo Studio to distribute real-time video clips in mobile-friendly formats – including the square video format popularized by Instagram and Vine – on Twitter and Facebook. Grabyo will also work with the League to evaluate social video opportunities on additional fast-growing platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram, Sina Weibo and Line.
Furthermore, LaLiga and a number of clubs will use Grabyo’s professional mobile video app Grabyo Mobile to capture behind-the-scenes footage. This unique, innovative approach to distributing content across the league’s broader social video ecosystem will utilize the unparalleled reach that both the clubs and players have on social networks in order to help satisfy the idemand among fans for content outside of traditional linear broadcast channels.
"It was important to LaLiga to be able to provide fans and sponsors with the very best video content from a variety of teams and players involved in the league. We trialled a number of other systems but nothing came close to Grabyo – in terms of its experience, capability and impact," continues Ignacio Martinez Trujillo.
"For me, technology is the best way to think about the future. We want to lead the way." - Nacho Trujillo, LaLiga. #WebSummit
