With its fair share of thrills and excitement, unexpected turns of events and hopes and dreams revived, the January transfer window for LaLiga Santander 2021/22 is now closed, so let’s take a look at who’s gone where.

More than half of the division’s 20 clubs took the decision to bolster their ranks last month. With five players incoming, Getafe CF added more reinforcements than any other LaLiga Santander club. Borja Mayoral and Gonzalo Villar have arrived on loan from Roma while Oscar Rodriguez, Okay Yokuslu, and Gaston Alvarez have also joined on loan from Sevilla CF, RC Celta and Boston River respectively as Quique Sanchez Flores’s charges seek to pull away from the relegation battle.

FC Barcelona have also made the headlines with their transfer activity, with Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, and Adama Traore heading to the Nou Camp this winter.

RCD Mallorca also made a noteworthy signing, bringing in experienced ex-Sevilla keeper Sergio Rico in on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Rico isn’t the only familiar face heading back to Spanish football – eight other players are returning to LaLiga from overseas. These are Dani Alves (FC Barcelona), Ilaix Moriba (Valencia CF), Bryan Gil (Valencia CF) Adama Traore (FC Barcelona), Ferran Torres (FC Barcelona), Giovanni Lo Celso (Villarreal CF), Martin Caceres (Levante UD), Gonzalo Escalante (Deportivo Alaves), Borja Mayoral (Getafe CF), and Gonzalo Villar (Getafe CF).

Sevilla have signed Anthony Martial from Manchester United and Jesus Manuel ‘Tecatito’ Corona from FC Porto and both of them are keen to make an impact on Spanish football for the first time. They’ll be trying to do so representing one of the division’s powerhouses in Sevilla FC.

Alaves and Cadiz CF were also busy making changes over the January transfer window. The Basques recruited Jason, Escalante and Nahuel Tenaglia while the Andalusians brought in Fede San Emeterio and Ruben Alcaraz on loan from Real Valladolid in LaLiga Smartbank. Idrissi also joins on a temporary deal from Sevilla FC.

Daniel Wass is on the move again and will now be representing Diego Simeone’s Atletico de Madrid. It will be the third LaLiga Santander team the Dane has played for, following spells at Valencia CF and RC Celta. The reigning champions also reinforced their defence by signing Mozambique left-back Reinildo Mandava.

Finally, Lucas Perez is on the move again, penning an 18-month deal for Cadiz CF after leaving Elche CF. The Andalusians will be the eleventh team that Perez has played for in his career.
