LaLiga, as a member of the Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), is once again backing the European Week of Sport campaign through a variety of initiatives. On this note, the LaLiga ambassadors Christian Karembeu and David Albelda respectively attended the 2016 kick-off events held in Slovakia and Spain on Saturday. The main aim of the European Week of Sport, a project which is driven by the European Commission and features the slogan #BEACTIVE, is to promote exercise and healthy habits among citizens through activities and demonstrations of a range of sports.

Karembeu travelled to Kosice, Slovakia to attend an opening ceremony organised by the European Commission. The Frenchman voiced his gratitude at having been invited to the event in his capacity as a European Week of Sport and LaLiga ambassador and highlighted the health benefits provided by sport. He stated that, "Initiatives like these are very important," before stressing that "LaLiga is participating in the project for the second straight year" and describing the campaign as "a tool for education and integration."

Albelda attended the opening ceremony that the High Council for Sport (CSD) held in Plaza de Colon in Madrid. Olympic high jump champion Ruth Beitia, taekwondo medal winner Joel Gonzalez and the rhythmic gymnastics team were all in attendance. The LaLiga ambassador congratulated the Spanish sportsmen and women on their success at the Rio Games and sent out a message of encouragement to the Paralympians who are currently competing in Brazil. He then urged the public to do sport and spoke of the multiple benefits that it entails. LaLiga was also involved in the event via the marquee set up by LaLiga4Sports, a project that promotes work by the 64 sporting federations in Spain and the Spanish Paralympic Committee, where videos of several sporting disciplines were shown and some balls were given away in a prize draw.
