For the second consecutive year, K LEAGUE CEOs have visited Spain to exchange knowledge with LALIGA clubs as part of the agreement between both leagues. On this occasion, the executives met with officials from Villarreal CF, Valencia CF and RCD Espanyol to share insights and explore new opportunities. In addition, they attended LALIGA EA SPORTS, LALIGA HYPERMOTION, and Liga F matches to experience the power of LALIGA football first hand.
Last season, LALIGA and the K LEAGUE extended their collaboration agreement until the end of 2026. This renewal expanded the scope of joint efforts, which now include, not only competitions and training in areas like audiovisual production and financial fair play, but also collaboration in women’s football, technology and innovation, as well as key strategic issues for LALIGA, such as combating hate and discrimination, with a focus on campaigns like VS Racism and VS Bullying.
The relationship between LALIGA and K LEAGUE clubs has historically been very strong. In the past, youth teams from clubs such as FC Seoul, Ulsan Hyundai, and Jeonbuk Hyundai played against youth teams from clubs like Atlético de Madrid and CD Leganés. Additionally, LALIGA youth teams have been invited to participate in international tournaments in South Korea. Later in 2024, further training sessions in Spain are scheduled, where K LEAGUE coaches will receive training from LALIGA and club coaches.
“We’re very proud of the work being carried out through the MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the K LEAGUE, which is bringing Spanish and Korean football closer together. We’ve been collaborating more closely for almost four years now, both through LALIGA and its clubs, and the synergies between the two competitions are driving progress in this regard,” said Sangwon Seo, LALIGA delegate in South Korea.
“First and foremost, we want to express enormous gratitude to LALIGA for organising this visit and to the clubs for welcoming us. This is our second consecutive year visiting LALIGA teams alongside the CEOs of our clubs, where we’ve been able to hear about the different business strategies of various teams first hand. Being able to have this experience with clubs such as Valencia CF, Villarreal CF and RCD Espanyol is very productive for K League clubs that want to keep improving to become more sustainable in the long term. We look forward to continuing this great strategic relationship with LALIGA for many years to come,” stated Yeon-Sang Cho, Secretary General of the K LEAGUE.
