Rayo, upwards
The match was tight at the beginning: both squads had their own chances but, as the minutes went on, Paco Jémez’s squad took control. Ebert, who could have scored the first goal with a header, had the clearest chance of the first half. Nevertheless, his strike hit the post.
Effective performance by Toño
The “Rayista” goalkeeper didn’t get to perform much in the first 45 minutes but when he had to do it, he delivered. He made a great save in the 11th minute to a strike by RCD Espanyol’s Víctor Álvarez. He also stopped Burgui’s penalty during extra time that could have ended the match with 3-1.
Penalty
The referee whistled penalty on 35th minute in favor of Rayo Vallecano and Trashorras scored his first goal in the Vallecas stadium, thus putting the home team ahead in the score.
Sent off players
Víctor Sánchez saw his second yellow card in the 66th minute and Sergio González’s team was left with ten players on the pitch. Rayo Vallecano had also a player sent off: Tito left the pitch during injury time. The defender used his hand inside the penalty area and that meant a penalty for Espanyol.
Javi Guerra
The Rayo center forward needed only two minutes to score two goals that put a 3-0 up on the score. Javi Guerra has managed to scored a goal in five of the six matches in which Rayo has scored. He has a total of six goals in his tally.
