Historic Sevilla FC in Europe

After their win over Dnipro in the final, Sevilla FC have become the only side to rack up four UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League titles.

Liga BBVA’s Sevilla FC have become the only side to win four UEFA Cups/UEFA Europa Leagues after downing FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the final of said competition on Wednesday.

Following their latest success, Sevilla move ahead of Liverpool FC, FC Internazionale Milano and Juventus, who have three titles. Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid have two, while Valencia with one are the other Liga BBVA sides to have won the tournament. LFP.es remembers the four finals won by Sevilla. 

Middlesbrough FC 0-4 Sevilla FC (2005/06)
Sevilla played in their first UEFA Europa League final on 10 May 2006. In the setting of the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, Sevilla met the English side Middlesbrough FC, in a game where the Spanish side dominated from the first minute onwards. The side that were then led by Juande Ramos got ahead in the 27’ minute with a goal from Luis Fabiano and then later, in the second half, they killed off the game with two goals from Vincenzo Maresca and one from Fréderic Kanouté.

RCD Espanyol 2-2 Sevilla FC (2006/07)
A year later, on 16 May 2007, with the same base as they had the previous year against the English side, Juande Ramos’ men made it to another final. This time they faced a side from the Liga BBVARCD Espanyol. The game was very even, side from Seville went ahead in the first half with a goal from Adriano Correia. However, Albert Riera drew level 10 minutes later to make it 1-1, the score the game would end at after 90 minutes. In extra-time, Fréderic Kanouté scored in his second consecutive final, however in the 115' minute, Jônatas Domingos got the equaliser to take the game to penalties, that Sevilla went on to win 1-3.

Sevilla FC 0-0 Benfica (2013/14)
On 14 May 2014, the Andalusian side reached another UEFA Europa League final seven years after winning their last title against Espanyol. This time, the game against Benfica took place in the Juventus Stadium in Turin with side already under the management of the current coach Unai Emery. The game was very open for both sides, and ended in the same way that the last Sevilla had done. Once again, Sevilla came out on top in the penalty shootout, this time with a score of 4-2 thanks to goals from Carlos BaccaStéphane M'BiaCoke Andújar and Kevin Gameiro. Also, the goalkeeper Beto had a starring role, stopping two of the Portuguese side’s penalties, allowing Sevilla to add a third UEFA Europa League to their trophy cabinet.

FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 2-3 Sevilla FC (2014/15)

A year on, Sevilla defended their crown in the final against Dnipro in Warsaw. Despite the fact the Ukranian side took the lead through Nikola Kalinić, Sevilla went ahead through strikes from Grzegorz Krychowiak and Carlos Bacca to turn the scoreline on its head. However Ruslan Rotan made it 2-2 on the stroke of half time. The second half was a lot tighter than the first, and there was a lot of nerves on display. However 17 minutes from the end Bacca cropped up again to seal Sevilla's fourth UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League crown.
