They travelled direct from Israel to Granada, full of anticipation about what they knew would be a fantastic weekend ahead. Four lucky international fans came eager to sink their teeth into everything the Andalusian city has to offer, and especially looking forward to watching Granada CF v FC Barcelona in the flesh. All thanks to the #LigaBBVAExperience, a project run by LaLiga in conjunction with its broadcasters from all over the world, and which four supporters from Israel drew to a conclusion this weekend in Granada.
Granada played host to the last edition of an initiative that had previously graced the streets of Malaga, Valencia, Gran Canaria, San Sebastian, Madrid, A Coruña and Bilbao, not to mention Seville twice. The climax came at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, where a pulsating encounter between Granada and Barça saw the Catalans crowned champions once again.
The Albaicin, the cathedral and the Alhambra – even more beautiful at night – were just some of the breathtaking sights that Idan, Yuval, Itay and Ren feasted their eyes on during three unforgettable days in Granada. Besides lapping up the city's rich culture – including also enjoying some flamenco at a typical tablao – they similarly tucked into several Spanish delicacies.
Of course, there was no shortage of football. The excitement that fills the air in the hours leading up to a big game is something that words cannot do justice – the #LigaBBVAExperience treated our quartet to lunch with Granada and Barcelona supporters' clubs so that they could really get a taste of the Liga BBVA pre-match atmosphere for themselves. After that, our guests explored every nook and cranny of the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, even walking on to the pitch to watch the Granada and Barcelona players warming up at close quarters. Their vantage point for the game itself was no less exclusive: a VIP box, from where they witnessed Luis Enrique's team clinch the Liga BBVA title in style with a 3-0 victory.
Last, but by no means least, came another treat: the chance to meet the home players. After the final whistle, the Granada squad took some time out to hang out with Itay, Ren, Yuval and Idan, who went away with several autographs scribbled on their shirts, and their cameras replete with memorable snapshots.
The #LigaBBVAExperience once more showed that football and culture is a winning combination, both for the league and for its fans.
