Girona strengthen their lead

Girona FC are still dreaming in the Liga Adelante. The side will be at the top of the table for another week after their 0-2 win over CE Sabadell on matchday nine of the championship, in a game in which Felipe Sanchón was the hero after scoring both goals.

Despite the final result, it was Sabadell who first created danger for their opponents. Raúl Tamudo could have put the Arlequinados ahead in the ninth minute, but the striker fired his shot over the bar. Girona, however, were not so forgiving and made the most of their first chance with a goal from Felipe after 15 minutes with a superb move on the counter. Felipe was back again in the 29th minute, when he latched on to a loose ball in the area to find the net and make it 2-0.

After the break, Sabadell tried to react and were determined to cut the deficit, but shot-stopper Isaac Becerra proved solid and stopped every effort from the home side. Jonás Ramalho could have netted a third for Girona with five minutes left to play, but Nauzet Pérez kept it out with a low save and the scoreline remained 0-2.
