Rip-roaring Getafe start
Right from the very first whistle, Getafe CF's determination to claim three much-needed points was plain for all to see. Fran Escriba's charges came out all guns blazing, with the whole team playing their part in what was an excellent start from the hosts. The home faithful recognised their players' efforts and responded by getting right behind their side.
Just rewards
It didn't take long for the Azulones fine start to reap its rewards. With barely seven minutes on the clock, Emiliano Velazquez was on hand to put his side 1-0 up. The Uruguayan centre-back met a Pablo Sarabia free-kick with a thumping header that flew into the net.
Inches away
The woodwork intervened to prevent both sides from scoring in what was an end-to-end and even second half. First up, Alvaro Vazquez was denied when his header from a Sarabia cross came back off the upright, and later SD Eibar were left cursing their luck as a long-range Takashi Inui effort smacked against the post.
Riesgo to the rescue
The Eibar goalkeeper produced heroics to keep his side in the game. In a Getafe counter, Vazquez found himself through one-on-one with just Asier Riesgo to beat, but the Basques' custodian pulled off an excellent save just as the home crowd were getting to their feet to toast their side's second of the night.
Borja Baston at his menacing best
The visitors' top scorer was a constant thorn in the Getafe backline. In the opening period the Eibar loanee had two good chances, the first of which saw him come a whisker away when the ball danced across the goal line and later on he headed wide when well placed. However, the Armeros striker saved his best for after the break, when with three minutes remaining, he struck the equaliser with a back-heel finish which caught Vicente Guaita by surprise.
