- El Toralin officially opened its doors on 5 September 2000, when RC Celta were the visitors for a friendly match held to mark the grand opening. The Vigo-based outfit ran out 2-0 winners, with the Celestes' former Spanish international Juanfran Garcia the first player to find the net at the stadium.
- The arena owes its name to the district of Ponferrada in which its lies.
- An 8,400-capacity all-seater stadium, SD Ponferradina's ground meets the UEFA stadium regulations to host international fixtures. The pitch covers an area of 105 m x 70 m.
- The venue welcomed its first international match on 1 June 2001, when Spain U21s eased to a 5-1 triumph in a European Championship qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina. That victory was secured courtesy of a Pablo Couñago hat-trick and strikes from David Aganzo and Antonio Guayre.
- The stadium accommodates the club's offices, a board room, press room, 16 individual and soundproof radio booths, a TV camera platform, a gym and a canteen.
