R. Oviedo have wasted no time in installing their new manager ahead of next term. Fernando Hierro, who previously served as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant in the Italian's second season at Real Madrid (2013/14), will take charge at the Carlos Tartiere for at least the coming campaign – his contract includes an option for a second year – and will be unveiled next week.

"Our intention is to take the team back into the Liga BBVA in a time frame of three to five years and Fernando will help us achieve that," the club noted on announcing Hierro's appointment. Although he has not been a head coach before, the former defender boasts a wealth of experience in the football world both on and off the pitch, having also had stints as the sporting director for the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and as Malaga CF's general manager.
Hierro's arrival is sure to further fuel the Oviedo fans' optimism ahead of the coming campaign. Having enjoyed a fine first season after rising back into the Liga Adelante, finishing ninth on 59 points and even challenging for promotion for long stretches, the Asturians will now be buzzing about the prospect of doing even better next time out and returning to the top flight under Hierro.
